Serving
at Calvary Chapel
In the Bible, the word servant, when translated, means slave,
indicating that as believers we must give up all in order to meet the
needs of others. Meeting the needs of others is accomplished both on an
individual level and within the local church. At Calvary Chapel, we approach
ministry not on the basis of skill and expertise, but on spiritual giftedness
and the calling of God. All areas of ministry are based upon the model
given in 1 Peter 4:10-11:
"As
each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards
of the manifold grace of God. If anyone speaks, let him speak as the
oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability
which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through
Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and
ever. Amen."
At
Calvary we have developed basic guidelines in order to serve here:
1.
Present yourself to God:
We are to present ourselves as living sacrifices, holy and acceptable
to God (Romans 12:1). Because our service is unto the Lord, it is vital
that our lives reflect His lordship and direction. Therefore, people serving
must not practice willful and unrepentant sin. This does not mean we expect
perfection, but a life that reflects God's ongoing work of conforming
you in the image of Christ.
2.
Study to show yourself Approved to God:
2 Timothy 2:15 tells us that an approved servant is one who is able to
rightly divide the Word of truth. It is vital that a servant at Calvary
Chapel be a student of Gods Word. Both in personal Bible study and
devotion as well as consistently sitting under the teaching of the senior
pastor.
3.
Commit yourself to the work of Christ:
Our service should be a work of faith, a labor of love and with a steadfastness
in the hope of Christ Jesus (1 Thessalonians 1:3). The catalyst for our
service is the love of Christ and furtherance of the Gospel. Ministry
should never be done for applause or selfish gain.
Every
member of the body of Christ serving in the place in which God has called
them and working within the power of the Holy Spirit brings life and edifies
the body. You are invited to serve Christ here at Calvary Chapel so that
the blessing of God may be added to your account.
